Senior Citizen Nutrition Program– Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm, The Tyvola Senior Center is a congregate meal site for the Mecklenburg County Senior Citizen Nutrition Program (SCNP).  If you are interested in joining us for lunch and fellowship please call 704-817-5463 for important enrollment info. Daily programs are offered to all participants in this program and many are open to non SCNP participants as well.

Beginning Line Dance Lessons – Tuesdays in December, 2014 from 1 – 2 pm.  
Beginning Line Dance Lessons are at Tyvola Senior Center! This monthly class is sure to get you up and dancing! Expect a high energy and fun hour! $20.00/month

Jazzercise Lite: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9 - 10 am with Virginia Alley. This class combines stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular endurance into a fun and exciting low-impact exercise program! $30/month.
Table Tennis- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 10:15am – 12:15pm. Come join our fun group of table tennis players, get a great workout, and prepare for the Senior Games with us. Use your new Senior Activity Card!

Health Suite – Persons 55 and better are eligible to use the Health Suite. Expect increased aerobic activity, an increase in lean muscle tissue, increased range of motion and joint stability as well as a decrease in body fat and resting heart rate!  Recent studies also show lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease for regular exercisers. For more info, contact the Health Suite at 704-817-5461. $2 per visit. Annual Fitness Passes are available, ask us about them.

FREE! Health Suite Circle Groups are classes focusing on strength, flexibility, balance and stamina that are offered by a HS Coordinator/UNCC Graduate Assistant. Eligibility: Health Suite Participant with all forms up-to-date and/or *HS Coordinator approval with qualifying fitness test.

NEW! FREE! Home Health Care Presentation. Tuesday, January 20th 10-11 am. This presentation offers information of Home Healthcare and the services that are provided. It identifies with those who may be suffering from chronic illnesses or disabilities or who are elderly and need continuous care while living at home, offering information regarding activities of daily living. Seniors are able to analyze their specific situation to see if they pre-qualify for a Home Health Aide. Seniors can receive assistance with applying to the State for services. This presentation also addresses the serious concern of neglect coming from agencies and or their staff do not provide adequate services; they are able to identify a problem situation and who they should contact with their concerns. It is estimated that only 10% of crimes involving scams or fraudulent activities committed against older adults are reported to the police or other authorities. These crimes include financial exploitation, fake check schemes, Medicare fraud, home repair or improvement scams, identity theft, investment schemes, and many others. Knowledge is the best way to arm yourself or a loved one against scams and fraud. Kim Henderson with the Better Business Bureau of Southern Piedmont will talk about some of the scams and schemes targeting older adults and provide techniques to avoid becoming a victim. This FREE class is open to everyone, and is suitable for individuals with limited mobility. Chair yoga is adapted to provide you all of the benefits of yoga including improving strength, flexibility, posture, without getting on the floor. This class is taught by Hampton Thrower.

Beginning Line Dance Lessons – Every Tuesday in January from 1 – 2 pm.  
Beginning Line Dance Lessons are at the Tyvola Senior Center! This monthly class is sure to get you up and dancing! Expect a high energy and fun hour! $20.00/month

Jazzercise Lite: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 - 10 am with Virginia Alley. This class combines stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular endurance into a fun and exciting low-impact exercise program! $34/month.

Table Tennis- Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:15 am – 12:15 pm. Come join our fun group of table tennis players, get a great workout, and prepare for the Senior Games with us. Use your new Senior Activity Card!

Health Suite – Persons 55 and better are eligible to use the Health Suite. Expect increased aerobic activity, an increase in lean muscle tissue, increased range of motion and joint stability as well as a decrease in body fat and resting heart rate!  Recent studies also show lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease for regular exercisers. For more info, contact the Health Suite at 704-817-5461. $2 per visit. Annual Fitness Passes are available, ask us about them.

A living longer, living smarter plan is a strategy for you to live your best life no matter what your needs or abilities. To achieve this result, the plan should cover many areas, from healthy living and finances to comfortable housing in a community that is responsive to your needs and interests. Planning for living longer, living smarter includes: Assessing whether your home and community can support changing needs. Taking care of yourself to improve your chances for a healthy future. Knowing the costs of long-term care and learning about ways to cover them. Creating legal instructions that will help keep you in charge of medical care decisions.

NEW! FREE! Know the Risk- Scams Against Older Adults. Tuesday, January 27th 10-11am. It is estimated that only 10% of crimes involving scams or fraudulent activities committed against older adults are reported to the police or other authorities. These crimes include financial exploitation, fake check schemes, Medicare fraud, home repair or improvement scams, identity theft, investment schemes, and many others. Knowledge is the best way to arm yourself or a loved one against scams and fraud. Kim Henderson with the Better Business Bureau of Southern Piedmont will talk about some of the scams and schemes targeting older adults and provide techniques to avoid becoming a victim. It’s BACK! Novel Writing – Level 1- Book outline. Wednesdays, January 7th – February 11th 2:00 – 3:00 pm. NEW! FREE! Home Health Care Presentation. Tuesday, January 20th 10-11 am. This presentation offers information of Home Healthcare and the services that are provided. It identifies with those who may be suffering from chronic illnesses or disabilities or who are elderly and need continuous care while living at home, offering information regarding activities of daily living. Seniors are able to analyze their specific situation to see if they pre-qualify for a Home Health Aide. Seniors can receive assistance with applying to the State for services. This presentation also addresses the serious concern of neglect coming from agencies and or their staff do not provide adequate services; they are able to identify a problem situation and who they should contact with their concerns. Photo Club – Wednesday, January 7th 12 pm.  An engaging DVD series of lectures, from National Geographic magazine contributing photographer, Joel Sartore will instruct you on the Fundamentals of Photography.  Lectures include making great pictures, camera equipment, lenses and focal length, shutter speeds, aperture and depth of field, and light 1.  Learn how to capture photographic stories and essays while moving beyond a still image to a photographic narrative.
