NEW! Tax Filing Assistance -Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning February 2, 2012. It is that time of year again!  For those 55 years and better and/or any disabled persons, this service is for you! The Center is partnering with AARP for tax filing assistance for simple tax returns from February 2, 2012 and ending April 12, 2012.  You MUST schedule an appointment.  Call (704) 522-6222.

Ebony Finley, RN, BSN from CMC University will enlighten you on heart diseases and conditions that can impact your health as you continue to age. NEW! Tyvola Center Cinemas -Fridays, Starting February 3, 2011 at 1 pm. From the heart throbbing classic films to the jaw dropping new age DVDs, we encourage you to watch our wide variety of flicks.  New movies will be shown each week and popcorn will be served! NEW! Elderly Tax Relief Program – February 8, 2012, 11 - 12 pm. North Carolina offers property tax relief programs for permanent qualified homeowners.  Tiffany Pettit, CNCA will thoroughly explain the Elderly or Disabled Exclusion, Circuit Breaker Tax Deferment, and Disabled Veteran Exclusion Programs and guide you with the completion of the application process.  The deadline to submit this application is June 1 of each year. Health Suite – Persons 55 and older are eligible to use the Health Suite. Expect increased aerobic activity, an increase in lean muscle tissue, increased range of motion and joint stability as well as a decrease in body fat and resting heart rate!  Recent studies also show lowered risk of Alzheimer ’s disease for regular exercisers. Volunteer Opportunities

For Individuals:

Computer Lab Help: Man our 6 station computer lab and assist Seniors with: applications, internet, e-mail, internet searches, Skype, etc. Computer knowledge is a must! Morning and afternoon shifts available.

Receptionists, Greeters and Health Suite Volunteers: Training is available for all listed positions.

Bilingual Volunteers

SHIIP Volunteers: SHIIP volunteers help fellow citizens and / or their caregiver in their community with questions regarding Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare claims processing, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and Medicare fraud.  Volunteers go through online training with the aid of the SHIIP Coordinator in the community.

Dietician, Nutritionist or Nurse to lead healthy eating groups.

For Groups of Volunteers:
We always have opportunities for groups of adults and groups of supervised students.

Some examples:
Planning and  implementing a program or special events for seniors
Cleaning
Painting
Outdoor sprucing up
Setting up for special programs and events

Volunteer Opportunities

For Individuals:

Computer Lab Help: Man our 6 station computer lab and assist Seniors with: applications, internet, e-mail, internet searches, Skype, etc. Computer knowledge is a must! Morning and afternoon shifts available.

Receptionists, Greeters and Health Suite Volunteers: Training is available for all listed positions.

Bilingual Volunters

SHIIP Volunteers: SHIIP volunteers help fellow citizens and / or their caregiver in their community with questions regarding Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare claims processing, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and Medicare fraud.  Volunteers go through online training with the aid of the SHIIP Coordinator in the community.

Dietician, Nutritionist or Nurse to lead healthy eating groups.

For Groups of Volunteers:

We always have opportunities for groups of adults and groups of supervised students.

Some examples:

Planning and  implementing a program or special events for seniors

Cleaning

Painting

Outdoor sprucing up

Setting up for special programs and events
