Senior Citizen Nutrition Program– Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm, The Tyvola Senior Center is a congregate meal site for the Mecklenburg County Senior Citizen Nutrition Program (SCNP).  If you are interested in joining us for lunch and fellowship please call 704-817-5463 for important enrollment info. We are starting Beginning Line Dance Lessons at Tyvola Senior Center! This monthly class is sure to get you up and dancing! Expect a high energy and fun hour!

 

Jazzercise Lite: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9 - 10 am with Virginia Alley. This class combines stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular endurance into a fun and exciting low-impact exercise program! $30/mo – with Discount Card  $45/mo – without Discount Card.

FREE! Table Tennis- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 10:15am – 12:15pm. Come join our fun group of table tennis players, get a great workout, and prepare for the Senior Games with us.

Health Suite – Persons 55 and better are eligible to use the Health Suite. Expect increased aerobic activity, an increase in lean muscle tissue, increased range of motion and joint stability as well as a decrease in body fat and resting heart rate!  Recent studies also show lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease for regular exercisers. For more info, contact the Health Suite at 704-817-5461. $1 per visit with Annual Discount Card, $2 per visit without Annual Discount Card.

Health Suite Circle Groups are classes focusing on strength, flexibility, balance and stamina that are offered by a HS Coordinator/UNCC Graduate Assistant and volunteers. Eligibility: Health Suite Participant with all forms up-to-date and/or *HS Coordinator approval with qualifying fitness test. Cost: $1-current annual discount cardholders, $2-participants without an ADC.

Beginner Watercolor Workshop (2 Days) - July 22 & 29, 2014 1:00 pm—4:00 pm. $20.00 per person + bring $5 the first class to pay instructor for paint and paper. Join Wendy Hope as she teaches a watercolor class for beginners! Students will need to bring these types of brushes:  1/2 inch flat, #4, #8 round, and a Liner. Senior Citizen Nutrition Program– Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm, The Tyvola Senior Center is a congregate meal site for the Mecklenburg County Senior Citizen Nutrition Program (SCNP).  If you are interested in joining us for lunch and fellowship please call 704-817-5463 for important enrollment info. Daily programs are offered to all participants in this program and many are open to non SCNP participants as well.

Exercise and Fitness

FREE! Zumba Gold- All Wednesdays in August 2014 at 10:30-11:15 am

This dance fitness craze gets you moving, it’s fun and entertaining! Whether you are standing or sitting, you will get the most out of your work out. Caddy Daddy Fitness Instructors will teach the class.

FREE! Chair Yoga Thursdays in August, 10:15 am

This FREE class is open to everyone, and is suitable for individuals with limited mobility. Chair yoga is adapted to provide you all of the benefits of yoga including improving strength, flexibility, posture, without getting on the floor.

 

Beginning Line Dance Lessons – Tuesdays, August 5, 12, 19, & 26, 2014 from 1 – 2 pm. Cost: $23 with Annual Discount Card, $35 without ADC

We are starting Beginning Line Dance Lessons at Tyvola Senior Center! This monthly class is sure to get you up and dancing! Expect a high energy and fun hour!

 

Jazzercise Lite: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9 - 10 am with Virginia Alley. This class combines stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular endurance into a fun and exciting low-impact exercise program! $30/mo – with Discount Card  $45/mo – without Discount Card.

FREE! Table Tennis- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 10:15am – 12:15pm. Come join our fun group of table tennis players, get a great workout, and prepare for the Senior Games with us.

Health Suite – Persons 55 and better are eligible to use the Health Suite. Expect increased aerobic activity, an increase in lean muscle tissue, increased range of motion and joint stability as well as a decrease in body fat and resting heart rate!  Recent studies also show lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease for regular exercisers. Health Suite Circle Groups are classes focusing on strength, flexibility, balance and stamina that are offered by a HS Coordinator/UNCC Graduate Assistant and volunteers. Eligibility: Health Suite Participant with all forms up-to-date and/or *HS Coordinator approval with qualifying fitness test. Cost: $1-current annual discount cardholders, $2-participants without an ADC.

NEW! FREE! Health Corner presented by Alzheimer's Association. Thursday, August 28, 1pm. 4th Thursday of every month from 1-2pm. Health Presentations focused on Aging Well. AUGUST TOPIC: Know the 10 Signs. Provides information about the difference between normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease, the benefits of early detection, as well as tips to follow up on any concerns that attendees may have about themselves or someone they care about. Photo Club – Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 12 pm.  An engaging DVD series of lectures, from National Geographic magazine contributing photographer, Joel Sartore will instruct you on the Fundamentals of Photography.  Lectures include making great pictures, camera equipment, lenses and focal length, shutter speeds, aperture and depth of field, and light 1.  Learn how to capture photographic stories and essays while moving beyond a still image to a photographic narrative. New participants are always welcome!

This is a support group for the visually impaired and is led by Jane Genten, a Social Worker for the Blind.

Watercolor Workshop (2 Days) – July 15th and August 12th 1pm. Join Wendy Hope as she offers a two day workshop for those who enjoy watercolor painting. The topic of painting to be determined (i.e. Mountain/landscape). Cost is $20.00 for both days and you will need to bring your own supplies. Class is limited, sign up at the front desk.

Make and Take Craft Class - Wednesday, August 13 & 27, 2014 – 1-2:30pm. Join us either or both days for fun new art projects. Mah Jong is an ancient Chinese game imported to America in the late 1920s.  Today, the Westernized Mah Jong Game is a family-friendly intelligence game which promotes psycho-social skills.  Learn how to play this ancient Chinese game.
