Support Us

Without the caring support of  individuals, foundations, businesses, Mecklenburg County and the United Way of the Carolinas, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Centers would be unable to provide the services needed to assist older adults in the community.

Financial donations from the community and support from our many volunteers make it possible for the agency to bridge the gap between local funding and the actual cost of providing essential services to seniors and their families.

You can give in the following ways:

Gifts of Cash or Stock
These gifts are always fully deductible. If your employer has a Matching Gifts program, your gift of cash could mean even more. If you own stock, it is usually more advantageous, tax wise, to contribute stock than cash.

Gifts of Real Estate
By making a year-end gift of appreciated property, your heirs may avoid the capital gains tax later.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
You could transfer assets to CMSC that would provide you with an income for life.

The Thora W. McElroy Legacy Society
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Centers (CMSC) Fund Development office offers the Legacy Society as one way to thank the valued donors who have made a gift for the future through planned and estate gifts.

Membership in the Legacy Society is open to any individual who has made provisions for CMSC through a variety of estate planning tools such as bequests in a will or trust, charitable remainder trusts, pooled income funds or gifts of life insurance. Members of this recognition society receive acknowledgement in all CMSC publications and on the website, as well as a certificate of membership.

Donors who have included CMSC in their estate plans should notify the Fund Development office; this is the only way CMSC will know about the gifts and be able to say "thank you." Recognition of one gift may well inspire generosity in others.

Letting CMSC know of their intentions does not create any obligation on the donors' part, but it does help CMSC tailor communications to their particular interests and inform them of developments at the Centers that may be relevant to their planned gifts.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Centers Endowment Fund
The Foundation for the Carolinas is the administrator for the Senior Centers Endowment Fund.  This foundation is an experienced steward in managing investments and handling gifts of all types, including complex donations of closely held securities and real estate.  The purpose of this Endowment is to provide perpetual income to operate and maintain building facilities in the years to come.

By contributing gifts to this Endowment, you help fund the bricks and mortar upkeep of our facilities and assure the well-being, enrichment and stability of all the older adults who participate in the vital programs and services offered at CMSC.

Memorial/Honor Gifts
Memorial and honorary gifts are acknowledged to the bereaved family or celebrated person on the same day the gift is received.  The Senior Centers sends an appreciative acknowledgement on any contribution size.  Gift amounts remain confidential in the acknowledgement.

Our staff will work with you and your financial advisor to assist with a variety of giving options. By giving a gift to the Endowment or the Legacy Society, you will show your appreciation for the wonderful older adults who have paved the way for us in the past and are valuable resources in helping us to prepare for the future.
